What is the MS Project?
The MS Project is a project which involves the implementation of a small-scale product, software, API, solution or similar entity to preferably address some current industrial need or requirement. The MS Project can also implement some innovative and unique idea of the student or supervisor which might become useful for the industry later on.

What is the motivation for the MS Project?
The primary motivation for MS Project is that the student implements a solution which can bring a change in his/her industry (or in any other one). For instance, the student can implement a solution for a problem which he/she is currently facing in the employer industry, and then start using this solution.

What are some example topics in MS Project?
Following are some examples:

  • An API which implements hierarchical time series forecasting and its data pre-processing steps and time series graphs
  • Implementation of a data warehousing layer (SQL queries) and integration of results with BI dashboards
  • Tuning deep learning algorithms for clinical data augmentation
  • Any machine learning application
  • An intelligent software module for online price comparison
  • A blockchain-based E-commerce portal

What is the duration of MS Project?
The duration of MS Project is one semester.

Who will supervise my MS Project?
For MS Project, the student has to register for a supervisor who is either a full-time faculty member or a visiting faculty member.

How to Select the MS Thesis/MS Project Supervisor?

By when do I have to register for MS Project?
Typically, the MS Project registration deadline will coincide with the course registration deadline of a semester. The registration deadlines will be updated here: https://cs.iba.edu.pk/msthesisproject/deadlines.php

How do I register for MS Project?
For MS Project, select your supervisor after discussing with him/her in person the details of your project.

Then, download the following form: MS.Project.Registration.Form

Fill out the form, as per the details of MS Project discussed with your supervisor.

Email the form before the registration deadline to riazali@iba.edu.pk and tmahmood@iba.edu.pk with your supervisor in CC.

Your supervisor will then send an acknowledgement of this in response to the same email.

Please note that, without the submission of the form, you will not be registered in MS Project; simply sending an email will not be enough.

When do I become eligible to take an MS Project?
You can register for MS Project after completion of 24 credit hours

How will I be evaluated for MS Project?
Following are the submissions for MS Project with their assigned weightage: 1) Mid-semester progress report (30%), 2) End-semester progress report + Final report (45%), 3) A short video (5-10 minutes) demonstrating the project (5%), and 4) A poster of the achieved work which will be demonstrated in a poster session at the end of each semester (20%).

How do I design and print the MS Project Poster?
Design your poster in Adobe Illustrator (using high-resolution image). The size of your poster should be 2 ft. (width) and 5 ft. (height). If you use low-resolution image in Illustrator, then your poster will be "stretched" on the given size, making it illegible. You are required to get your posters printed from the local market. This printing is cost-effective for the students.

When will the Poster Session be held?
The poster session will be held at the end of each semester and the exact date will be announced by the MS Program Coordinator.

Where can I find the templates for progress report and final report for MS Project?
The templates for the reports are as follows:

What grades are assigned for MS Project?
For MS Project, grades are assigned according to IBA's grading plan (https://examination.iba.edu.pk/GradingEvaluation.php)

What if I have an unsatisfactory performance in MS Project?
In case of unsatisfactory performance in MS Project, the student will need to register and repeat MS Project in the upcoming semester.

Who will inform us of the deadlines for registrations, progress reports and final reports?
All deadlines will be updated here: https://cs.iba.edu.pk/msthesisproject/deadlines.php
